"I've passed signs for Sutton Mill Dam a number of times without knowing a thing about it. With only a half an afternoon to spare I thought it would be a good time to explore.
A 26 acres wildlife park, Sutton Mill is quite small and has a river running in at the east end and then out through a dozen step waterfall at the west end before going on to join the St Helens Canal. I hoped it would be a circular route but there is no path along the northern edge owing to the proximity of houses.
There is access at both ends with on street parking, I used the Leach Lane end as New Street is adjacent to a school and it was home time!
Not a long walk, more a casual stroll really but it is well worth a visit. Certainly bears further investigation and see if it can be tied up with another area nearby to make a substantial route."
