Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Spalding Gentlemen's Society Museum as a 'beautiful hidden gem' with an 'eclectic' and 'amazing' collection. The 'incredibly knowledgeable' and 'friendly' volunteer curators are frequently highlighted for bringing history to life and making visits memorable. While opening hours are limited, the unique historical significance and the passion of the staff make it a highly recommended experience for those who appreciate local history.

"I think that the word 'eclectic' is perfectly designed to describe this museum! This is not the junk of a provincial museum. It is the result of a major 18th century Society where each new member had to contribute from their own collection. Early members included Isaac Newton, John Gay, Sir Hans Sloan, Sir Joseph Banks and Alfred, Lord Tennyson! We spent a couple of hours on a rainy day there, which did include chatting to the enthusiastic interesting and informative members there."

"The Deepings NWR Ladies received a warm welcome and experienced an incredible tour from two of the volunteer curators. Their knowledge, wit and generosity made our visit so memorable.
The museum collection of artefacts and library in itself are pretty amazing - especially for a small town, but the curators actually brought history to life for us.
Lincolnshire residents should be immensely proud of this unique institution. Visit, support and enjoy it yourself. The founding fathers designed it for men (a sign of the times in 1710), today it is open to all who love history and those who don't yet know it. The volunteers work closely with local schools and you can hear the joy it brings them to broaden the horizons of young 21st century minds to the museum collection.
Look out for their top class lecture programme throughout the year in the Methodist Church opposite."

"An excellent little museum with some really great artifacts, very friendly staff that are extremely knowledgeable, a really interesting two hour walk round and only about 120 yards from a small car park that is free on Sunday. Limited openings 2pm-4pm on the third Sunday of the month commencing February. I fully recommend a visit."
