What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Shrewsbury and Newport Canal for its peaceful atmosphere and natural beauty, especially the opportunity to see swans and ducks with their young. The restored towpath is ideal for leisurely walks, making it a delightful spot for families and nature lovers. While it can get busy on sunny days, the overall experience is highly recommended for its tranquility and scenic charm.
"Newport Canal is a lovely place to walk, from the centre of Newport town you can either walk towards the lovely village of Edgmond and back, or the opposite direction towards Forton. Spring/summer time is always the best time to go, as you’ll hopefully get to see the resident swans with their signets, or ducks with their ducklings. The current swan pair has 12 signets! Also gorgeous in the winter time when it snows."

"Kids loved feeding the ducks and seeing all the ducklings and the swans with they're young. There were also tiny tadpoles further up which we keep having a look at every few days - kids love it"
Vikki Stoddart
"Such a beautiful and peaceful walk along the canal..All the restoration work had made the water do clear and the swans and cygnets a beauty to watch as they glide through the waters. I have seen big fish ( carp?) too. Highly recommend this nature trial but it can get crowded on a good day."
