What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Old Salt Quay is celebrated for its stunning riverside location and friendly, efficient staff, creating a great atmosphere for socialising and day drinking. However, dining experiences, particularly the Sunday roast, have been inconsistent, with some guests reporting disappointing food quality.
"Good views, spacious and lots of seating. We were grateful that we could be seated earlier than our initial booking… but the food was absolutely diabolical. I have been to the salt quay several times before and have always had a positive experience but regretfully it is unlikely I will return.
We ordered a roast and it arrived approx 1 minute after ordering. It was clearly reheated, though given it came out within 1 minute of ordering on the app it is unlikely to of even been reheated fully - which was confirmed with the food being cold. Lumpy gravy, a dry piece of chicken slapped on the plate, the tiniest bit of stuffing and cauliflower cheese. Cold soggy vegetables, all tasteless I couldn’t even finish it. I would have mentioned something to the staff, if you could grab their attention. We weren’t asked how our food was and when the plates were taken, was again not asked how it was - in which I would’ve given an honest review.
Next up was dessert, I was a little hesitant but I thought surely it can’t be any worse than the roast - I had sticky toffee pudding that was actually quite nice, but the custard was cold. My mother (for her birthday treat) had a lemon tart - firstly, I’m not sure a lemon tart should be illuminous green, and I’m sure it’s not meant to have the consistency of play dough, or wallpaper paste. It tasted extremely artificial and again, could not be finished. The table was also dirty and the menu had old food over it.
Overall, this was a real let down and I do feel sorry for the tourists who would come to this pub to try a classic British roast dinner. Nonetheless, it is a good spot for day drinking and socialising - but avoid the Sunday roast dinners (and lemon tarts) - it’s not worth the money or calories and I wished I could’ve got my money back."

"This has to be one of the best pubs I’ve been to for many reasons.
The main reason being everytime I have come here the staff are so polite and friendly and nice. Like I’ve never received such amazing service as I have here!
The view of the Thames is amazing, the food is tasty, it’s always chill, decent music in the background and it’s not so loud you can’t hear each other."

"I pre booked a table for my birthday celebration. I got a few emails saying they were looking forward to welcoming us, and just checking I was ready wanted to cancel. We bought drinks first on arrival as we were an hour early, and sat outside in the sunshine. A great view and atmosphere of the Thames, Shard etc There was a mix of after work drinks, families etc
I later told bar staff of my booking. The lady was really lovely and upbeat. She showed us to our table. A great choice of main meals, small plates, desserts etc The waiting staff were brilliant. Checking all was OK, food etc, and I was wished a great birthday. We will be back. A short train ride might be easier than parking outside, although you can put your registration number in for free parking. Rotherhithe has lots of history of the old docks and Brunel. A must for historians. Can't wait to visit again! It's a must!
Thanks for making my birthday special!"
