Right now, you are held by nature, unbothered, at peace. This is what it means to come home to yourself. The air smells like moss, bark, and something ancient. You pause at a fallen log, running your hand along the rough texture of its surface. For a moment, there’s nothing but stillness. And somehow, that stillness fills you. #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthadvocate #se...

Reviews Summary

Salcey Forest is appreciated for its beautiful ancient oak trees and family-friendly Stick Man Trail, offering a peaceful natural escape. However, some visitors find the parking fees steep and the forest experience a bit too 'tamed' or commercialized, with occasional issues regarding trail maintenance and litter. InstagramReddit+1

"Salcey feels a little tamed. I was expecting for less plantation treescapes and more examples of the four-teir system you'd find occuring within woodlands.
It's a nice place to go don't get me wrong and I'm sure for a family or with a couple of friends it'd be fun but it feels more theme parky rather than highlighting on the diversity Salcey potentially holds"

Jack Barnes

"Our first visit here.
Overflow car park was in use, which is a bit of a walk across the main road to get to the main car park/go ape etc so bear that in mind.
The forest trail markers were very good, easy to follow and once you were a mile out, you barely saw anyone else until the last mile.
Some of the "paths" on the 6 mile route could have done with a bit of trimming of the edges, you ended up walking like a T Rex to not get stung by nettles/brambles on parts of it.
Also, for being a forest, I expected more shade, they seem to have put the trails though open spaces for most of it, meaning it wasn't the shady walk we had hoped for in the hot weather, we were having to seek out shade to have rest/water stops. Luckily we went early just in case and finished it by midday"

Heidi Adams

"Forestry of england what a disgrace this place is !! They placed a few overpriced caffès and a few benches between the trees and they charge a fortune !! The trail is the same it was 15 years ago no improvements whatsoever just loads of ticket machines for overpriced parking And nothing good to see . A few kids minihouses and a bridge over nothing and a few bits of wood with coloured images,no bins thru the forest so encourages people littering as you can see plastic bottles and dog poo bags hanging in the trees dog poo allover the trails and kids actually stepped in a few . The only bins are near the caffe, no staff around so this place is a total waste of time and money !!"

Understanding Parking and Costs

A common point of discussion among visitors to Salcey Forest revolves around the parking fees. Many find the charges, often around £8 for just over two hours, to be quite steep, especially for a day out in nature. This has led some to feel that the forest is 'tamed' or feels more like a commercial attraction than a natural woodland. InstagramReddit+1

To mitigate these costs, visitors often suggest making a full day of it to get the most value from the parking fee. For those who plan to visit multiple times a year, purchasing an annual pass from Forestry England can be a more economical option. This allows for unlimited access to parking at various Forestry England sites. Reddit

Some visitors also express a preference for free, wilder woods, contrasting the paid parking experience at Salcey. However, others acknowledge that the fees contribute to the upkeep and management of the forest, including facilities like the cafe and play areas. It's a trade-off between accessibility and cost that many visitors weigh up. Instagram+1
