What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Mertoun Gardens for its beautiful blend of manicured and wild landscapes, especially along the scenic River Tweed. The peaceful atmosphere and well-maintained paths make for a delightful visit. However, some find the entrance signage confusing and locating facilities like toilets can be a challenge.
"Lovely visit in great weather. Only one other car in the car park, no one around so we paid (£5 per head, children free) in the honesty box and took a leaflet which contains the map. The path is signposted and you are asked to follow the arrows which takes you round the extensive walled garden then down around the 'big hoose' (not open to the public) and swings back past the dovecote to the start. Great views over the Tweed from one of the many benches. It does say no dogs, but the guys fishing and the one other couple that were there both had labs (the four legged kind, not chemical). No cafe, it did say toilets but I didn't see them. Worth a visit,"

"We visited Mertoun Gardens today on a beautiful sunny day - the gardens where superb. The mix between carefully crafted manicured gardens and wild areas just right. Lovely setting alongside the river Tweed, well-maintained paths making it easy to explore all the gardens and river walk. Lovely little Church nestled in woodland. Thank you for letting us share your garden."

"Had difficulty finding the garden as we did not read the welcome sign properly. Should have gone a little further along the road. Not on our own though as 2 other cars were parked in the wrong place. By the time we found the garden the others had left so had the place to ourselves. Very enjoyable and most impressive and effeciantly laid out."
