What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Coed Ruperra for its lovely woodland walks, rewarding summit views from the motte and hill fort, and its suitability for families and dog walkers. The site's natural beauty and historical elements are frequently highlighted as major draws. However, the very limited parking is a consistent point of frustration for many.
"A lovely walk to Ruperra Motte at the centre point. The views on the way up were lovely and the walk wasn’t too steep or long for my 5 year old to manage it too. It could be difficult to park here during busy times, we got the last space from someone leaving as we arrived, and we went on a weekday."
Rhi Bunston
"Great walk, lots of paths. 360 views from the fort"
Record One
"A wonderful little hill - just 182m above sea level - with great views and a unique circular stone walled summit. Loads of woodland loops up to and around the hill, but only very limited views of nearby Ruperra Castle - to get a view of that you need to get closer or fly a drone above the trees.
Draethen is a very picturesque little village and although the pub closed a few years ago, the community is trying to buy it to reopen it.
A great place for walking and connects to longer routes including Cambrian Way, Rhymney Valley Ridgeway and Rhymney River Circular."
