What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the incredible city views from Blackford Hill and the fascinating insights gained during Open Days, with staff being exceptionally friendly and informative. However, the observatory's limited public opening hours and the need for advance booking can be a point of frustration for those who arrive without prior arrangements.
"Despite having a visitors center and a shop, this place is rarely open. Check the opening times before visiting. Gate attendants are quite cross if you come by to have a look if it's closed (even from the outside) as you interrupt their tea when they have to get up from the guardpost. You have to stay outside the gates which unfortunately does not allow close views of the building. View from the top of the hill is nice and you get a good overlook of the city. Sadly there is much more they could do with this to make it a place for visitors."

"Just got back from their open day, we had an absolute blast! Everyone was super friendly and informative, I learned so much (especially about rocks from space!). I can't wait for next year. As a 46 year old grown-up, it made me feel like an excited child!"
Eli Jacks
"It is worth seeing if you are into astronomy and telescopes, it is truly a historic beast. Be sure to make reservations beforehand as it is not open to the public without scheduling one."
