Bute Yard is a highly recommended 'hidden gem' in Rothesay, praised for its vibrant markets, diverse pop-up food, and excellent local bar with a wide drink selection. Visitors appreciate the dog-friendly atmosphere and the unique, covered barn setting, making it enjoyable in any weather. While some find the food slightly overpriced, the overall community vibe, live music, and convenient location near the ferry make it a standout destination on the Isle of Bute.
"What a great place to sit and chill with a few drinks. There was food available, too. The Bute distillery runs the bar and it's open till 8 pm every night. The great thing is it's all under cover in a big barn, so it's dry and warm. The bar stocks a large variety of drinks at great prices. The kitchen has a limited menu, but all the food we ordered tasted nice. There was meant to be live music, but no one turned up. The toilets, outside but covered as well, we're immaculate, we'll done the cleaners."

"I worked at Bute Yard in the kitchen for the weekend for their Pride festival and the Sunday service too. It is such a lovely and great hidden gem up the main street near the castle. Worth a visit for the food, especially as other places can be closed at the weekend, or close early for food, this has indoor and outdoor access, it's dog friendly, has a bar for drinks, and fully equipped kitchen for food. It is hidden away and might be missed or overlooked. But just walk up the high street past the castle and it's right there. 5 mins from the ferry!"

"This was a highlight of our visit to Rothesay. Not well signposted so truly a hidden gem. The outdoor seating area wasn't our choice but looks good. We opted for the cavernous inside and the gin flight. Difficulty deciding which 4 gins each to pick from the selection as we have different palates. Barmaid on hand to offer advice and we settled down on the long bench style seating with our 4 samplings each. Both agreed Calum's Cabin was our favourite! So has to buy a bottle to take home. Interesting pictures from yesteryear too. Would highly recommend it as a must do to anyone who likes a gin!"
