He is at Cassino Italy in the 4th battle to cut the Gustaf line 12/13th May 1944 stood on the Rapido river Bailey bridge crossing as the Bridgemaster depicted in the painting by Terence Cuneo. He received an immediate in field Military Medal for his actions, others were also decorated for their bravery at this time."
