Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Pwll Du Bay's unspoiled beauty and remote, wild atmosphere, making the challenging walk entirely worthwhile. It's praised as a quiet escape with stunning coastal scenery and opportunities for swimming and exploration. However, the lack of amenities and the demanding access are noted drawbacks for some.
"It’s only a kilometre west of Caswell Bay, but Pwll Du offers a significant contrast, you will not find a more remote location east of Mewslade and Fall Bay down in the Wild West of Gower.
A great grey storm beach gives a somber backing, and only small sections of dry sand remain between the sea and stone at high tide. To the west, the great headland of High Pennard shelters the beach from the sea breeze.
So why does it feel so remote? There is no road access, and you should expect to walk for at least twenty minutes, partly on some quite challenging terrain. The beach offers no amenities, no toilet, no shower, no café, no lifeguard.
If you are prepared to do the walk, you’ll find a quiet and wild spot. One of the two old houses in the bay now does accommodation, but are otherwise very quiet. The yacht club occasionally turn up in the summer months for a jolly. The surfers paddle round to Graves End to work the breaks. Wild swimmers take the high tide challenge to make it to Ring Rock and back. Dog walkers abound. Sunbathers enjoy the warmth.
Just as a footnote, the valley that stretches behind is like entering a lost world, and offers deeply shaded woodlands next to bubbling Brook. Well worth an explore if you have the time and inclination"

"This beach is quiet but beautiful. To reach it is a lovely walk down. You can park your car all day in the South Gower Rugby Club car park. The views are well worth the trek. However there is a sad history about the bay . In 1760 an Admiralty ship called the Ceaser was wrecked against the rocks . Most of the officers above deck survived, but the poor souls press ganged into the navy and held below deck lost not only their freedom but their lives. Locals who went to see what they could salvage from the ship discovered the bodies and buried them in a mass grave at Graves End they circled the grave with stones which can still be seen today this is a sad but true story. Don't be put off the Gower coast is steeped in history and stunning and Pwll Du is awesome."
