"These gardens, originally planted on land reclaimed from the sea, offer a pleasant respite from the bustle of the town and the harbour, with lawns, flowerbeds designed in beautiful patterns, and splendid coastal views. I did miss the Mediterranean feel of the exotic palms that were flourishing here last time I visited several years ago, but I noticed that new young palms and other saplings have been planted to replace them. There's a big wheel, a war memorial, and an ornate Victorian fountain that has recently been restored. Ample seating. Conveniently close to cafes, refreshment kiosks, and the other seafront attractions. A nice place to relax with an ice-cream and watch the world go by."
