"Wildlife rich. Short walks, longer walks, worth a couple of circuits a visit. Good variety in sights, from the moss itself to the surrounding woodland which changes from pine on the north side to a deciduous area on the south. Good spot for Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers. Moths, butterflies, and dragonflies are here in abundance. Sadly, so are ticks, so make sure you check yourself out after visiting. Small parking area for four to five cars depending on the sense of the drivers parking."
Simon Watson
"I visit here often. It's one of my favourite places to walk the dog and get some peace and quiet. Paths are great and the forest is beautiful."

Understanding the Raised Bog Ecosystem
The community's efforts to restore Portmoak Moss are crucial for preserving this fragile environment. Restoration projects often involve managing water levels, controlling invasive species, and reintroducing native plants to help the bog return to its natural condition. This work is vital for maintaining biodiversity and the ecological services that bogs provide, such as carbon sequestration.
