Parking & The Path

Parking is often via an honesty box on a local farmer's land (£2-£3.50). The initial walk is gentle, but the descent to the main fall is steep and can be slippery, with a handrail that's more decorative than functional. Be prepared for a challenging but rewarding trek.

Embrace the Chill!

While the water looks inviting, reviews suggest it's quite cold! Dipping your feet is one thing, but swimming is for the brave. The surrounding valley is beautiful, and the falls are immaculate and litter-free, so remember to leave only footprints.

Reviews Summary

Mill Gill Force is a beautiful natural gem in the Yorkshire Dales, praised for its stunning multi-level waterfall and immaculate surroundings. Visitors appreciate the charming honesty box parking and the delightful community cafe in Keld. However, the steep and slippery path to the falls requires caution and good footwear.

"This place is well worth the drive to even if it's for the honesty box car park which only works in small villages as otherwise e-scooter chavs would have robbed it blind. The walk starts with a nice gentle track to walk and is great. The second party is a rather steep bumpy slippery hill path with a hand rail at the side, but the handrail is deceptive as it's smoother that a smooth thing winning the worlds local smooth championship. Slipping and making a grab for it would not be a great idea as you would get to the bottom in record time with possibly so parts of your body pointing in incorrect directions. After a little jaunt over a bridge and the obligatory photos of the river and some smaller falls it's just a five minute walk up to the mail fall.
My girlfriend and friends said the water wasn't that cold after you had been in it for a while. I tested this theory with a little paddle in the stream coming off it. When the feeling had returned to my feet and I had stopped screaming like a small child who has had it's toy ripped away from it I had worried out that the females in the pool maybe suffering from hyperthermia and also maybe mad.
It's definitely worth the walk it's just beautiful and luckily people have remembered to take only photos and leave only footprints as it's immaculate and litter free also there is a nice little cafe near the carpark which is that savagely priced and does nice food, but that's in another review"

"A local farmer uses his land for parking.
A honesty box asking for £2 or £3.50 for long stay.
Then you have a walk along the pennine way.
The waterfalls are well worth seeking out.
On return we went into the community cafe . Here you will find cakes and hot drinks on a self service basis. They ask for £2 per item . Meanwhile a gentleman came in and topped up the log burner keeping it well warm.
Hopefully visitors will respect this lovely cafe.
It's a haven for hikers and visitors
We loved it."

"Lovely waterfall in Keld bit of a decent down some steps to get to it but really worth a look with multiple levels of falls really is pretty and the surrounding area is just beautiful . Keld itself is a very charming village and when we visited there was a help yourself mini cafe in the church hall which was a lovely touch with tea ,coffee ,cold drinks and home made cakes which you paid for with an honesty box or with a card reader."
