Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise London Road Cemetery as a beautiful, peaceful, and historically rich 'hidden gem.' Many are surprised by its arboretum-like quality and the depth of historical information available through plaques. While some note it's less known than it should be, the overall sentiment is one of appreciation for its authenticity and serene atmosphere.

"I am already planning a return visit! Originally I was visiting the Charterhouse across the road, and found they had a leaflet about this cemetery. As we had some time before a dinner reservation, we decided to have a quick walk around. Being a history nerd and family historian, I am quite experienced in grave hunting but this is such an historical and well kept place. Besides information plaques dotted around, graves of people of historical interest are highlighted with information along with a QR code to find out more. There are Commonwealth War Graves among the standard graves. Free to visit although check opening times."

Elizabeth Baker

"I noticed the cemetery earlier in August 2025 during the visit to the Charterhouse. So returned at the end of the month by train. The walk goes via the Coventry University Technology Park. Lots of historic Victorian buildings and monuments here. Designed by Joseph Paxton. There is the main entrance between the Prospect Tower and Italianate Lodge. Paxton's Memorial. At least two chapels (Anglican and Nonconformist). At least two war memorials. Plus the Carriageway Entrance. Only took about 15 minutes to walk back to the station. And another 10 minute wait to catch Avanti West Coast back to Birmingham New Street."

Elliott Brown

"An unexpected highlight of my day trip in Coventry. I was cycling to the Charterhouse and passed through this Joseph Paxton-designed cemetery. It’s laid out in a thoughtful way that draws the visitor to explore all the paths and the diversity of headstones and landscapes contained within. Extra marks for the interpretation boards that had be been installed next to some of the plots telling the history of Coventry through some of its past residents."
