What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Paxton Pits is praised for its beautiful nature trails and the opportunity to connect with wildlife, making it a great spot for walks and birdwatching. However, some visitors find the visitor centre could be more welcoming and better equipped for refreshments. The reserve's transformation from gravel pits to a nature haven is a notable positive aspect.
"Good place to walk around and loved the trails/set routes we could go down. It was great to be in touch with nature here. However we were a bit disappointed by the visitor centre. It felt unwelcome and school like instead of a place to get refreshments and learn more about the place. A refurbishment may be helpful to get more people coming through the doors and generate further interest."

"Paxton Pits visitor centre and the surrounding lakes is a fine way to make use of disused gravel pits. There is a visitor centre which shows you what can be seen in the area and explains about the conversion of the gravel pits to a nature reserve. It is a popular place for people to visit and a number of bird watching hides make sure visitors are comfortable. Dogs are allowed on the reserve but not into the hides. The car park does contain a height barrier so if you visit in a high sided vehicle such as a motor caravan you are forced to park on the side of the road. There were plenty of bird using the pits during my March visit."
