What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Lichfield Guildhall as a spectacular and ancient venue, particularly for live music and arts events. The historic architecture, including high ceilings and wooden beams, creates a unique atmosphere, and the prison cells offer an intriguing glimpse into the past. While the sound for very loud bands can be affected by the acoustics, it's generally well-suited for acoustic performances and creates a wonderful ambiance when full.
"The Guildhall is a spectacular and ancient venue in the centre of Lichfield. I’ve been there several times now to see live music events. The building is very old, with a high ceiling, wooden beams, and plaques listing all the mayors of Lichfield going back hundreds of years.
As a music venue it is slightly challenging: the high ceiling means that there’s a significant amount of echo which I felt wasn’t ideal for a loud rock band. However it does work for more acoustic acts, and when the venue is full that makes a difference to the sound.
On the occasions I visited there was a bar staffed by volunteers which had a fairly limited range of drinks available, though still something to suit most tastes.
As it’s in the centre of town there are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby for drinks before or after the show."

"What a beautiful building to see a very good Duran Duran tribute band. Duran UK are the best as far as I am concerned. A large crowd of fans made for a wonderful atmosphere. If you ever get the chance e to go to Lichfield do ,it's a beautiful place with stunning Tudor architecture"

A Glimpse into Lichfield's Past
Adjacent to the main hall are the former prison cells, which offer a more somber but equally important perspective on the Guildhall's past. Exploring these cells provides a stark reminder of the justice system's evolution and the lives of those who were once incarcerated. It's an experience that resonates deeply, allowing visitors to connect with a different facet of Lichfield's heritage.

Experiencing Events at the Guildhall
While the Guildhall excels as a venue, some acoustic considerations have been noted. The high ceiling can contribute to echo, which might be less ideal for extremely loud rock bands. However, for more acoustic acts, the sound is often reported to be quite good, especially when the venue is full.
Complementing the event experience is a volunteer-staffed bar that offers a reasonable selection of drinks. Its central location also means that attendees have easy access to numerous bars and restaurants in Lichfield for pre- or post-event refreshments, making a night out at the Guildhall a complete experience.
