What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Kelmarsh Hall and Gardens for its elegant Georgian architecture, beautifully maintained gardens, and friendly, knowledgeable staff. The historical insights, particularly from the servants' quarters and the tea room's offerings, are frequently highlighted as enjoyable aspects of a visit. While the art installations in the woodland are seasonal, the overall experience is described as peaceful and picturesque, making it a recommended day out for various visitors.
"I recently visited the elegant Palladian-style country house and surrounding gardens with friends for the august bank holiday weekend and had a special time.
The acres of surrounding land are both vast and beautiful, overlooked by the stunning grade-I listed Kelmarsh hall atop the well-kept gardens. I especially enjoyed the woodland area; it was peaceful and scenic, perfect for a relaxing walk. At night the woodland came to life, with stunning art installations and in-situ music performances. The lights interwoven amongst the foliage on the ground and up high provided the perfect environment for an evening sampling some of the UKs finest native organic produce.
It’s a great place for a day out, or a few days camping, whether you’re exploring on your own or visiting with family and friends. I would highly recommend this establishment.
Note that the art installations among the wooded areas are not present year-round. We also were not able to visit the distinctive Walled, Sunken, topiary or rose gardens in our visit."

"Kelmarsh Hall and Gardens is a historical place that has a house and garden with a cafe and free car parking. You need to book the place first. It is suitable for kids to play around. The garden was ok. it was recommended to visit."

"First time visiting here having seen it a month or two ago on a drive by to get to my next section of Leicestershire Round long distance footpath. We are National Trust members, so usually stick to those. This place was a better than expected surprise. Especially liked the gardens and the below stairs section of the house. Loved the documentary video of the interior designer previous lady of the house. Very friendly staff throughout. Lovely cake in the cafe. Based on this visit I will be looking into Historic Houses membership next year to see what other gems we have been missing out on. Lovely visit!"
