Watching the world go by at @hexhamabbey 🌍✨ Gaia has arrived in Northumberland and it’s definitely something to see with your own eyes! 🤩 This morning I went along to see Luke Jerram’s touring artwork which measures six metres in diameter and is created from 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface. For context, that’s about 1.8 million times smaller than our real planet! 👀 The amaz...

Many highlight the unique ancient artifacts like the bishop's throne and Frith stool, as well as impressive art installations. "Lovely place to look at. Unfortunately we arrived late in the day so only got to enjoy the exterior of the building. They were ringing the bells which was nice. Next to the abbey is a park and the railings of the park are covered in knitted/crocheted poppies which was beautiful to see. Well done to those who made the poppies."

Sharon Riaz

"A wonderful treat for anyone who appreciates medieval architecture and art. This is a beautiful building that survived HenryVIII’s purge of the monastic orders and their abbeys. A church/abbey/cathederal/church has stood on the site since the 7th century."

Anthony Davis

"Absolutely fantastic abbey that is vibrant, active & well worth the entry fee. We paid the extra to go down the steep steps to the original crypt from 673/4...the crypt itself was built from recycled stone from a Roman bridge at Corbridge. Roman carving & inscriptions are clear to see in the stonework. When we visited GAIA (a revolving globe art installation) was in the abbey. It looked fantastic. As a bonus the café was lovely & on a sunny day sitting in the courtyard would be bliss."
