"My partner and I were looking forward to this visit. We always have our two small dogs with us as they have been trained and are really well-behaved. As there was no information on the website about dogs not being allowed in and the village itself is well-known for being dog-friendly, we assumed we would be allowed to have the dogs with us. When we arrived we asked the gentleman at reception if we could visit with dogs. He responded: "I'm afraid not as out of 20, maybe 1 or 2 are well-behaved". His manner and attitude were arrogant and condescending. Although I can understand why some establishments won't allow dogs, we had never been informed in such a rude and unpleasant way. Besides, one has to wonder the reasoning for dogs not being allowed into the school, as William Wordsworth himself was a dog-lover and, indeed, wrote many poems inspired by his beloved dog Pepper. A real shame, as an Assistant Headteacher at a school in the Southwest of England, I had considered bringing a few school visits over, which sadly, I don't plan to do now. This happened on Sunday 27.7.25 at around 2pm. There was a younger gentleman, who we did not get to speak to and the older gentleman, who, unfortunately, did not make us feel very welcomed at all. Thankfully, the rest of the day was wonderful as we were welcomed with our dogs by the very friendly and polite locals in all places we wanted to visit."
