Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise RSPB Loch Lomond Gartocharn as a lovely sanctuary with friendly, knowledgeable volunteers. The diverse wildlife, including red squirrels and various bird species, is a major highlight, along with the peaceful woodland walks and picturesque Loch Lomond shoreline. Some visitors note that while the main trail is manageable, other paths can be uneven.

"A lovely sanctuary. The volunteers/staff are so friendly and welcoming. They had great information about where to see different birds and wildlife long the trail. Highly recommend"

Emily Srhoy

"Amazing sanctuary nestled just off the main road.
Originally just visited to see what it was like, now we visit quite regularly as it’s such a fascinating place.

The area of land is they are conserving boasts long walks through the woodlands, boardwalks over the marshlands, viewing points with plenty of bird feeders, pond dipping and at the end of the trail which is marked 1.8 kilometres is the most beautiful, quiet and picturesque beach where you can unwind.

The wildlife that we have seen whilst visiting so far is: deer, red squirrel, geese, all sorts of finches and tits and pheasants, as well as hearing a woodpecker and seeing a badger in dusk.

A couple of volunteers were waiting one night for snipe and said they’d be out in 15 minutes, so we waited and almost to the minute out came the snipe making calls to each other with their tail feathers which is something you can’t quite get until you hear it for yourself."

LM

"Great nature reserve for woodland birds and red squirrels. The walk down to Loch Lomond also takes in wetland habitat. The Loch view is impressive."
