Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Eglinton Castle Ruins and Country Park for its free access, beautiful scenery, and family-friendly amenities like the play park and cafe. It's a popular spot for walks, picnics, and dog outings, offering a blend of history and nature. Some wish for more historical information onsite.

"Relatively modern in castle terms having been built between 1797 and 1802, after the original castle was burnt down in 1528. At the time the grandeur of the new castle was criticised. Unfortunately, immense costs forced the family to abandon it in 1925 with all the contents and lead roof sold off. It got progressively ruinous and then was further damaged in WWII during army training. It's now surrounded by a country park attracting lots of visitors who can appreciate the remains. It would be useful if there were some information boards to explain the history of the castle."
