What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors often praise Durham Castle for its stunning architecture and historical significance, with many drawing comparisons to Hogwarts. The opportunity to stay overnight or attend events in the Great Hall is a unique highlight. However, some reviews mention negative interactions with staff and concerns about college management, particularly regarding security.
"3rd yr student Olivia took a group of us on a tour of the Castle. We particularly liked the Black Staircase the design of the same being totally floored!"
Sue Riach
"Arguably the rudest porter I've ever met. Having a child about to start the uni but being berrated as though people like 'us' couldn't possibly be entering the uni was heartbreaking. We weren't even asked for the uni ID (which we obviously had) before an angry little shouty man came up to us. Ruined a proud, life changing moment.
I understand there have been a certain type of person there for a long time, but now (slowly), people are getting into these places based on merrit not purely whomever they were birthed too, so this gut should get used to that or find a new job."
Sara Canto
"Encourages you to store your bike in their bike shed...doesn't do anything when their shed is broken into and all bikes are stolen. Basically sums up the college."
