Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Didcot Railway Centre for its authentic atmosphere, passionate volunteers, and well-maintained collection of steam locomotives and carriages. It's described as an immersive and informative experience suitable for all ages, with many highlighting the enjoyable train rides and interactive exhibits. Some minor issues with parking payment apps have been noted.

"I had a nice time at the railway museum, you can spend at least 2 or 3 hours there and not cover everything. It being a diesel day, they had two trains to go on from different eras. It was very immersive, being able to sit in different carriages that are beautifully restored.

There are many steam engines in the sheds to look at, along with various carriages and motor cars in different spaces in the museum.

It really is a beautiful space with plenty to see.

There is an entrance direct from the Parkway station which is easy to find."

"We visited on a Steam Gala weekend, Saturday. Unbelievably great place where you can walk between the trains whilst the staff ensure your ongoing safety. At least 5 locos in Steam today, and free rides on two different short tracks. One of the best days out ever!"

Paul S

"Haven't been here for about 4-5 years. Was great to see all the new work and exhibits alongside all the old favourites. New disabled entrance means we can bring 93 year old Grandad next time!
So many beautiful trains, carriages and rolling stock from all generations, including broad gauge. Wonderful to be able to climb aboard the cab and 'play' with all the instruments. Detailed history of individual trains and buildings. Excellent signals building which gives (noisy!) interactive experiences and written information on how things work. Other things to note are the turntables, bomb shelters, steam trains run on 2 separate tracks on steaming days, signal boxes, a piece of a vacuum pipe from a vacuum train and a great play area for the little ones including a brilliant climbing frame in the shape of a train. Plenty of picnic tables and a covered shaded area.
Toilets, cafe, gift shop, second hand book shop and train memorabilia. Covers 21 acres, most is accessible other than things like air raid shelters and getting in the cabs. These are accessed by steep steps. Uneven ground in places and the obvious tracks but there are safe, level crossing points frequently. Thoroughly recommend for all ages."
