The Beacon, Culmstock 🥾 Beautiful walking across this health land on the Devon / Somerset Boarder. There is a steep hill from Culmstock side and a bit of a gentle hill from Wellington side. You can roam for hours up here, like you are on top of the world. #devonphotographer #walkingdevon #devon #devonisheaven #devonshire

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the stunning, far-reaching views from Culmstock Beacon, describing it as a tranquil and beautiful location. The opportunity to see wild ponies and cattle adds to the charm, and the walk itself is considered enjoyable, especially the open spaces for dogs and children. Some reviewers noted that signage could be improved and that certain paths can get muddy.

"Really nice walk, a slight hill through woods to start then opens up and is flat to the beacon, it's approx 5 kilometres and took us 1 half hours to complete including looking at the view which is quite stunning you can see for miles if it's good visibility. There are some wild ponies loose up on the flat bit towards the beacon. The track nearer the ridge of the hill was quite muddy in places and a detour into the bushes was needed to get by. There is parking on the road at the begining of the track."

"Weather was awful but it's a nice place to walk, great views the signs have been damaged so without a map it's difficult to locate the right turn. I don't think the farm that has the right of way to the beacon running through it is all that keen. There were lots of cattle in the field that the path runs through, I may be wrong but persevere, it's worth it. There's a great Pub in Culmstock when you finish so have a pint they do food too!"

Chris Jackson

"Easy flat level walk once you've made it up the first hill to gain access. Stunning, far reaching views when you reach the beacon hut itself. Almost a 180 degree panorama. You can see the M5 easily. Lots of open space, plenty of gorse and bracken, wooded areas and two large ponds, one of which is the Blackdown Common Pond. Great for dogs to have a swim. Mine loved it. There are also a few horses around. Several routes to walk, anything up to 5 miles depending on your stamina and abilities. Good place for children to run around and lose some energy. Will definitely go again."
