"A well maintained 11th century church in Cookham, Berkshire, adjacent to the Thames towpath. Historically linked for ever with the famous artist Stanley Spencer, who has a gallery in his name just around the corner. The church has on display a copy of his interpretation of the Last Supper, the original of which is usually displayed in the gallery. The church is normally open to visitors during the day and, although appearing dark and gloomy on first entering, your eyes get accustomed to the light, and there is uplifting which shows off the roof timbers to great effect.
It would appear to be quite an active church, running as it does, no less than four choirs, with two sung services each Sunday.
Among my photo's, there is one of a name carved into a pew in 1868. Vandalism isn't restricted to modern times!"
