What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Cathedral's magnificent Victorian Gothic architecture and the informative tower tour, highlighting the friendly and knowledgeable staff. While the building is highly accessible and offers a peaceful atmosphere, some find the on-site cafe to be a bit expensive.
"I often come to this cathedral as I love looking at the architecture here. I have done the tower tour which I had prebooked online and it was worth paying for! The tour guide was friendly and so knowledgeable which made the already amazing experience even better. Also, all of the staff I’ve come across in this cathedral have been wonderful, I have no complaints about any experience I’ve ever had here. When I was last here looking around we had a lovely member of staff come up to us and gave us so much information about how the church works and also how it was built and why things are the way they are which was really interesting!"

"Hard to believe this amazing Gothic cathedral wasn't built hundreds of years ago?
Wonderful, uplifting and very accessible for wheelchair users! There is a modern entrance to one side called the Narthex. This houses fully accessible parish rooms, excellent disabled toilet, cafe and repository.
Please note, the cathedral is not dog friendly. I've asked them to amend a notice in the newsletter saying dogs aren't permitted in the cathedral to "no dogs permitted except Assistance Dogs" because this is breaking the law. Assistance dogs are essential and in the case of deaf recipients, it's the only way you can recognise a person is profoundly deaf because many profoundly deaf people can't wear a hearing aid or cochlear implant. People recognise that the recipient is deaf through the Hearing Dog, and modify communication accordingly.
The displays about the history of the cathedral is so interesting and one thoroughly enjoyed reading them.
Lovely well stocked affordable repository.
Cafe is a little expensive compared to many other places around Norwich; a latte £3.80 and a dry date slice (ok, a disappointment) £3.30. £7.30 for the two! Shocked. Spoilt my visit somewhat.
To contrast with that, in the Walsingham Slipper Chapel tea room, I paid £2.50 for a big delicious homemade scone and £1.75 for a cup of filter coffee. Big difference! £4.25! If you're on a low income it really does make a big difference.
It's wonderful going to Mass here. A lovely aura of peace."

"This great church was built between 1884-1910 to the design of George Gilbert Scott Jnr (finished by his brother John Oldrid Scott after his death in 1897). It is widely admired and considered one of the most successful of the thousand of Victorian reinterpretations of the Gothic style, showing a scholarly knowledge of medieval architecture and an attention to detail that were it not for the sharper condition of it's stonework this could be mistaken for an authentic 13th century church. This may sound like a praise of pastiche, but it is more than that, for I genuinely believe no other post-Reformation church so successfully captures the spirit of the middle ages as this one does."
