Reviews Summary

Cathedral Green is a historically significant and attractive area near Derby's city center, praised for its green space and proximity to the innovative Museum of Making. While some find it slightly separate from the main city bustle, its recent investment and riverside location make it a pleasant spot, especially during summer or for special events.

"Slightly strange area of Derby, it's really close to the city centre yet feels quite separate from it. It's had a significant amount of investment in recent years and actually looks pretty decent.

The 'green' area is quite nice and there's often people just soaking up the sun during the summer. The new Museum of Making is also located here as is a Premier Inn.

The green also forms part of a cycle network that runs right across the city following the river.

Historically it's nationally important as the Museum of Making is arguably the world's first purpose built factory and the Premier Inn sits on what was Exeter House, the location of Bonnie Prince Charlie's council of war that basically ended his campaign for the crown.

Overall a nice area especially during the summer."

Barry Eggleton

"Cathedral Green is an attractive area next to the river derwent by the museum of making things. There is a large statue of Bonnie Prince Charlie. The footbridge over the river derwent is a swing bridge with a 38-degree bend in it to represent taylors' shears. The 95-ton bridge opened in 2009 at a cost of £4.2 million pounds."

Andrew Nell

"Wide open space overlooking the Derwent and Museum of Making. Beautiful in the autumn sunshine."
