What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Yorkshire Arboretum for its beautiful scenery, diverse tree collection, and the delightful opportunity to see red squirrels. The tranquil atmosphere and helpful staff contribute to a highly recommended day out. Some find the gravel paths challenging for buggies and wheelchairs, and early morning visits are best for wildlife spotting.
"Lovely day out, wanted to see red squirrels all my life and it didn't disappoint. It's best to come early as they are quite active, then tend to go and hide as the day goes on. It's hot and miss if you get to see them. The scenery is lovely, lots of foliage and fauna, as well as insects and wildlife. If you like garden birds there are plenty of diverse species to watch on the feeders and photograph. Cafe is nice and you can also bring dogs with you. The pathways are gravel, so not ideal for buggies and wheelchairs may find it hard going. Bring some good walking shoes or trainers."

"We visited on a weekday on our e-bikes. We were shown to a bike park area which is safely within the grounds of the arboretum. There is even a bike charging facility on the wall but you may need to bring your own charger unit to plug in which suits your particular bike. One of us enjoyed free admission as I am an RHS member. It’s a very tranquil place with hundreds of varieties of trees and pathways to enjoy through the parkland. The red squirrel area was amazing. We had to be patient but eventually we observed two different red squirrels and managed to get some decent photos even with my phone. We didn’t eat there but the cafe was very popular and the food choices looked excellent. Highly recommend if you like and are able to walk the footpaths and enjoy the beauty of the place"

"We had a fantastic visit to the Yorkshire Arboretum.
We pre-booked one of the, rough terrain accessible Buggies, (for a donation to the Accessible appeal) which was a most valuable asset, and allowed us to see everything we wanted in the grounds.
Louise on Reception was very helpful informative and friendly.
We went on a Tuesday morning, and there was a Talk on the Red Squirrels 🐿️ in the enclosure, this was very interesting and informative, and we had great views of the Red Squirrels, although some of the Kitts, were very shy.
Also a lot of Birds 🐦, as they feed the squirrels and the birds, during the talk.
Best bird spot, was a Nuthatch.
The Arboretum, is fantastically logged, with information boards, about all the trees 🌳
The cafe, served great coffee ☕️, and a scrumptious 😋 bacon sandwich.
All the staff were five stars 🌟
In all a very special place to see, will definitely be returning."
