‼️Here’s what you need to know to increase your chances of getting on that ferry ⬇️‼️ -BUDGET MULTIPLE DAYS- some days nobody gets on standby, and other days 10 people may get on. Increase your chances by having multiple days to try. -GET THERE EARLY- If you get there at 4 and there’s already 2 people waiting, your chances have already decreased drastically. -STAY CLOSE BY- waking up that early i...

Many highlight the value of family tickets and the enjoyable experience of being on the water. While queues can be a drawback during peak times, the overall journey is considered a beautiful and worthwhile part of a Lake District visit.

"You will get self drive boat from this bay. It is one of the best experience of life to ride a boat in a such a beautiful lake."

Nimesh Dedhia

"Starting point for some of the best Lake District cruises, including circular tours of Windermere, and boat trips north to Waterhead pier.
I'd advise taking a cruise on a sunny day for the best experience, when you can really appreciate the wonderful views of the distant mountains.
The audio guide on the cruise points out notable landmarks, from islands to lakeside buildings, and most boats have outdoor and indoor seating for better views or comfort.
Prices aren't cheap, in the region of £20 - £30 when I visited, but the ride was a good length.
Cruises depart fairly frequently but in peak season can get very busy, so I'd recommend arriving early or taking a late evening sunset cruise if you prefer to avoid big crowds.
The white and green pier buildings are a lovely architectural feature of the Lake District."

Andrew Thomas

"One of my "things to do" while on holiday in The Lake District is a ferry ride on Lake Windermere. I was very sceptical as I have heard sometimes they are very expensive. We got the ferry return family ticket 75 minutes, It only cost about £35! We were really shocked.
Unfortunately the weather didn't hold but we got off at the north of the lake and walked to the village and had a brew!. Looked around the shops and the walked back to get back on the ferry. Great day out. Beautiful scenery, nothing like it"
