What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors generally find Blue Planet Aquarium a good way to spend a few hours, with the underwater tunnel and shark feeding being major highlights. While enjoyable for families, some feel the exhibits are starting to look dated and could benefit from refurbishment. The outdoor trail and play area add value, but the dinosaur exhibit is underwhelming.
"Blue Planet Aquarium is a brilliant place to visit and a great way to spend a few hours, whether you’re going as a family or just looking for something fun and educational to do. It’s an excellent learning experience for children, with plenty to see, do, and discover throughout the visit.
There are talks and animal feedings scheduled at different times during the day, which make the experience even more engaging. I’d highly recommend catching the octopus talk and feeding, as well as the shark talk, where divers actually go into the tank to demonstrate what they do - it’s amazing to watch!
The aquarium is well laid out, with lots of fascinating marine life and interactive displays. Overall, Blue Planet is a fun, educational, and memorable day out"

"Got better the longer I stayed. If you are walking there you may miss the building as it doesn't have a sign on it. Once in you have to seek out all the tanks as there is no map. Once you get your bearings there is lots to see. All the tanks are amazingly clean and full of interesting fish, frogs, snakes spiders etc. The talks are very interesting and staff seem genuinely happy and excited to pass on their knowledge. Some of the fish tanks are huge. Go round a few times as you will see more each time.
Outside, through the shop, there are pelicans and a little further on a field of dinosaurs which looked a bit out of place.
Overall a good place to visit."

"A great way to spend a couple of hours, You're able to walk around as many times as you like. Parking booked online at the same time as tickets so wasnt an issue on the day. Staff pleasant and happy to answer any questions. Shame the tunnel wasn't turned on - that was the only disappointment. But for a first time visit we really enjoyed it!"

Navigating the Exhibits
Don't miss the otter exhibit on the outdoor trail, where these playful creatures are a delight to watch. For those interested in smaller wonders, the reptile and amphibian zone presents a challenging yet rewarding exploration of frogs, lizards, and snakes. While the aquarium is generally well-maintained, some reviews mention areas looking a bit dated and in need of a refresh, particularly the upholstery around the shark tank and the clarity of the glass.
Be aware that exhibits like the pelicans might be moved indoors due to health outbreaks, as happened during a bird flu incident. The 'dinosaur' area is described as underwhelming, so manage expectations for that particular section.
Planning Your Visit: Timing and Tickets
The aquarium can typically be explored thoroughly within approximately three hours. However, this timeframe doesn't always account for extended enjoyment of the outdoor trail, the children's play area, or attending specific feeding events. Families, in particular, may find themselves spending longer to fully engage with all the attractions.
For a less crowded experience, mornings before noon are generally quieter. Weekday afternoons, after the initial lunch rush, also tend to be more manageable than weekends or peak holiday times. Arriving around 10 am on a weekday can mean no queues, with crowds building up closer to midday.
Family Fun and Amenities
Beyond the aquarium itself, the site includes an outdoor picnic area, making it convenient for families to bring their own lunches. There's also a cafe on-site offering meals and snacks, though prices are noted as being on the higher side. The quality of the food, however, has been positively reviewed.
Accessibility for wheelchair users is also a consideration, with staff available to assist and exhibits designed for viewing from a seated position. This ensures that most families can enjoy their visit comfortably.
