Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Blackmore Priory Church for its stunning, uniquely constructed wooden bell tower and the charming village atmosphere with its duck pond. The friendly welcome from church staff and the community spirit, especially during events like the Tuesday cafe and Sunday teas, are frequently highlighted as positive aspects. However, the main drawback is the church's restricted and often limited opening hours, which can make planning a visit challenging.

"A fine early church with a famously picturesque wooden bell tower dating from 1400. Visiting hours are restricted but well worth planning (see the website). I timed my trip for the popular Tuesday morning cafe in the church. Very friendly greeting from four different people, one of whom offered to show me the remarkable interior of the bell tower, and the Norman arch linking it to the body of the church. I've visited hundreds of churches but have never before been invited to ring the bells!

The village itself, with its duck pond, half timbered houses, cafes and pubs is also worth a stop. Buses are limited."

"Beautiful church largely wood construction but only open at limited times. But many enjoyable walks nearby which start from the church (but not all wheelchair friendly. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area"

Malcolm Blackie

"Stunning timber construction in tower if you could only get access. Mostly locked, no keyholder info but sometimes open Sundays 2.30-4.30 summer only for teas."
