Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Beacon Hill Burghclere for its stunning panoramic views, including a distant look at Highclere Castle, and its historical significance with an Iron Age fort and Lord Carnarvon's tomb. The free parking and access are appreciated, though the steep and potentially muddy path is a common point of caution.

"Lovely ancient Iron Age fort. There’s nice footpaths up and around it. There is also a good view of Highclere Castle, aka downton abbey, from the top. Look out for the grave of George Herbert in the fenced off area near the top. At the summit you’ll find a trig point and panoramic views. Worth the 120m claim up from the car park."

Chris Gledhill

"An amazing spot right on the side of the busy A34 northbound.
A small car park which then leads you to a narrow unmade steep path up to the summit.
Not ideal for people with the likes of buggies or a disability. Can get rather boggy & muddy during the winter months.
The 360 views are worth it, down over the Solent, over to Highclere Castle.
There is an old Iron Age fort that you can walk all the way round & of course the grave stone of the famous Egyptologist Lord Carnarvon, buried with the view of the Highclere Estate.
Going down is easier than coming up!"

"Great spot for some hiking and spending some quality time with nature. The views of stretched out fields, sheep and forest are amazing. You can go with kids and family for a day out if weather is favourable. Highclere castle view reminds of some movies. Free car parking and lot of picnic spots"
