Reviews Summary

Barton-on-Sea is praised as a beautiful, peaceful coastal spot with convenient parking and clean facilities. Visitors appreciate the dramatic cliffs, views of The Needles, and opportunities for fossil hunting. Some find the stony beach less appealing than sandy alternatives, and beach huts are noted as being run-down.

"A Hidden Gem on the South Coast

I recently visited Barton on Sea and absolutely loved it. It’s a beautiful and peaceful spot on the south coast of England, perfect for a relaxing day by the sea. One of the first things that struck me was how clean and well-kept the area is — from the parking areas to the walking paths, everything felt tidy and welcoming.

The waves were huge the day I went, which made it even more exciting. The beach isn’t sandy but has a rugged charm, with dramatic cliffs and a great view across the water. On a clear day, you can even see The Needles over on the Isle of Wight, which adds a lovely touch to the scenery.

There’s a public car park very close to the beach, which is super convenient. I paid £2.30 for an hour, and it felt very fair considering how close it was to the shoreline.

It’s not an overly touristy spot, which makes it even more special — you can take a quiet walk, watch the waves crash in, or just sit and take in the sea air. Whether you're on your own or with family, it’s a peaceful and scenic escape from city life.

All in all, I had a wonderful time at Barton on Sea. It’s definitely a place I’d return to — simple, authentic, and full of natural beauty. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a less crowded but stunning seaside location in the UK."

"Barton on Sea is a charming coastal gem on the Hampshire coast, offering a delightful blend of natural beauty and easy accessibility. The stretch of beach here may be predominantly stony, but it's surprisingly easy to walk along and provides a peaceful setting for a relaxing day by the sea. The gentle slope of the beach and well-maintained paths ensure that visitors can enjoy a stroll or simply settle down with a book, even when the tide is fully in.

One of the standout features of Barton on Sea is the convenience of parking. Two ideal car parks make access a breeze: the Barton on Sea car park near the Beachcomber Café, and the Marine Drive car park, both of which are within a short walk to the beach. For those willing to explore a bit further afield, there’s also an abundance of free parking available along nearby residential streets—if you know where to look.

The beach offers stunning views of the Isle of Wight and the Needles, making it a picturesque spot for a quiet retreat. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, Barton on Sea’s unique mix of accessibility, natural beauty, and tranquility makes it a perfect coastal escape."

"We had been recommended coming to Barton on Sea to find fossils. Beautiful place.

The toilets were very clean and modern with space to change babies.

There was a car park and street parking right by the walkway down to the coast.

Be careful coming down if you have a pram or wheelchair as it is steep."
