Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Avalon Marshes Centre a useful base for exploring the surrounding nature reserves, appreciating the birdlife and peaceful walks. The Avalon Archaeology Centre is a highlight for history buffs, and Somerset Crafts offers unique local art. However, some reviews note basic cafe facilities and inconsistent signage to the nature trails.

"This is a useful centre surrounded by marshland nature reserves. It provides Toilets, good refreshments and an excellent cross section of Somerset Crafts. The day we visited it was hosting a Festival of Peat which was very enjoyable and informative. For me the most exciting and interesting feature was the Avalon Archaeology Centre A brilliant interpretation display with carefully reconstructed Iron age Roundhouse, Saxon Long house and Roman Villa and also some really interesting films about the history of the Marshes. The Archaeology centre is normally only open on Sundays. The only disappointment was that there was little display or information about the Marshes and their varied habitats and reserves and no information desk about them. Definitely worth a visit and perhaps on a Sunday."

"A good base for walking the marshes. Cafe had a good range of meal types. Some car parking. Spectacular countryside , insects and good bird spotting within a few hundred yards."

Matthew W

"A cafe and shop and free parking for visitors to the Avalon Marshes. The Marshes are a short walk away along the main road. Cafe and shop open till around 5. Marshes are worth visiting and offer many walking routes over the Levels, following the ancient wooden walkways built by neolithic people.
Only suggestion would be to signpost the entrance to the nature reserve and footpath clearly from the car park and along the road so walkers know where to go."
