What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning beauty of Arundel Castle Cricket Ground, particularly its unique setting against the historic castle. The atmosphere during matches is generally delightful, though large crowds can lead to parking and bar service challenges. While the ground offers great views, bringing your own seating is often advised for comfort.
"A much bigger crowd than expected (4.5k) turned up which created a long queue for the car park. Short walk to the ground, and wow, how beautiful it was. Reasonable priced food and drink available but try to avoid the toilets if you can! Would definitely go again."

"Lovely ground, excellent layout with full visibility and space to put your seating allowance all the way round, very good tea hut. Disabled parking is very well placed, but only 3 spaces, so book in advance."

"My visit was during a County 50 over one day cup match, which won't be representative of most days here. There was a large crowd which resulted in long queues for parking and ticket checks. For this match I was not permitted to bring my own alcohol, which would have been fine if the bar wasn't a complete shambles. The bar staff appeared to have never worked behind a bar before and whoever was working behind the scenes didn't know what they were doing either. This led to long queues, poor quality drinks and limited choice as pumps stopped working. Incredibly the bar ran out of beer before the end of the day.
Apart from that it was a delightful place to watch a day of cricket.
There were a very large number of fold out chairs available for this match, I suspect on other days you would be advised to take your own camping chair or picnic rug."

The Cricket Experience
For those attending a match, it's worth noting that while the ground offers excellent visibility from all around, comfort is key. Many reviewers suggest bringing your own chairs, as provided seating may be limited during larger events. The on-site food and drink options are reasonably priced, but the bar service can be a point of contention during peak times, with reports of long queues and disorganization. This blend of sporting passion and historical grandeur creates a unique day out for cricket enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.
Beyond regular fixtures, the ground also plays host to special events and residential stays, such as those organized by Lord's Taverners for empowering young people or annual residential stays for cricket clubs. These events highlight the ground's role in fostering community and providing memorable experiences, often involving the 'cricket at Arundel Castle' experience.
Arundel Castle: The Majestic Neighbor
Exploring the castle itself offers a deep dive into England's rich heritage. You can walk through its grand interiors and learn about centuries of fascinating history. Some TikTok videos even hint at 'secret tunnels' beneath the castle, adding an element of mystery and intrigue. The castle's moat walk is also a notable feature, offering a unique perspective. Whether you're a history buff or simply appreciate stunning architecture, Arundel Castle is a must-see complement to any visit to the cricket ground.
Many visitors make a day trip from London or Brighton specifically to experience both the castle and the cricket ground. The proximity of the castle to the ground means you can easily combine a tour of the historic landmark with watching a match, creating a full day of exploration and entertainment.
Planning Your Visit: Practicalities
Seating arrangements can also vary. While some matches provide fold-out chairs, it's a recurring tip to bring your own camping chair or picnic rug for guaranteed comfort, especially as you might have to carry them a considerable distance from your car. This advice underscores the importance of being prepared for a day of outdoor spectating. The ground's layout ensures good visibility from most areas, making it a pleasant place to watch cricket.
Regarding amenities, while food and drink are available and reasonably priced, the bar service during busy periods has been described as chaotic, with long queues and stock issues. This suggests that while you can rely on purchasing refreshments, managing expectations and perhaps bringing your own non-alcoholic beverages (if permitted) might be a wise strategy for a smoother experience.
