What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Midhope Castle is a must-visit for Outlander fans, offering the iconic Lallybroch exterior. While access is limited to the outside, visitors find the experience magical and the entry fee reasonable. Some feel there isn't much to see beyond the exterior, but the surrounding scenery and historical significance are appreciated.
"Honestly there there isn’t much to see. It’s not like you can go inside the castle itself but they still charge you to see it. It holds significance to a lot of people because of Outlander I believe m but more than the castle it was cool exploring the area surrounding it. So I guess go if it’s part of your tour but otherwise meh 🫤"

"We had a few hours to spare today, so we decided to pay Midhope castle a visit since the weather was good. There is plenty of parking, then a short walk to the ticket / gift shop which had friendly staff . The castle is an interesting historical place where you can see all the different add ons over the centuries , it would be good if in the future the castle was made structurely secure so the inside could be opened to the public. It has toilets and a few picnic benches, so you can sit and have some chill out time and enjoy the sunshine as well. It's good to be able to visit a centuries old piece of Scottish history still standing . There is a coffee and cake trailer at the entrance, which makes a great oat milk latte, and the cakes are good as well served by a pleasant chap as well . The £7.50 entrance fee is reasonable to keep the castle standing into the future."

"Midhope Castle, famously known as Lallybroch from Outlander, is a fantastic stop for fans of the show. While you can’t go inside, the exterior alone is worth the visit, offering the perfect backdrop for photos and a chance to walk in the footsteps of Jamie Fraser.
The entry price is very reasonable, making it an accessible experience for those wanting to see this iconic filming location. Upon arrival, visitors receive a brochure, available in French and English, which provides historical context and details about the castle’s role in the series.
Even though the castle itself is not open for tours, the surrounding area is beautiful, and the atmosphere is undeniably special for Outlander enthusiasts. If you love the show, this stop is absolutely worth it!"
