What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Aberavon Aqua Splash being a fantastic, free water park right by the beach, a huge hit with children who could spend all day there. While the free aspect is highly praised, some note that toilet facilities could be cleaner and that shade is limited, suggesting visitors bring their own.
"A superb water park, available for free, right next to the beach. A great place to wash off the sand or to enjoy on a hot day. The water is chlorinated and there are many water features.
This was a huge hit with the kids who loved it and would have spent all day here, every day! And it was 18 degrees! So I can imagine how popular it is when hotter.
I think it’s fanatic that the council has this available for free, it’s a real highlight to a visit here."

"Amazing to have a free facility like this! I wish we had one where I live! The kid's had a great time here.
There were 2 'lifeguards' (?) sitting and watching. This in all honesty felt a bit daft and not a good use of money. I can't see how they are needed, as with any park- accidents will happen but this is inevitable and parents responsibility. There were no areas of standing water, just fountains.
The loos were filthy, which was a shame. Having someone clean these rather than sitting and watching the splash pad would be more useful. Also unless you have a disabled toilet key you can't used the baby changing facilities which was quite annoying so just had to change my daughter on the grass."
April Mason
"Kids absolutely loved it, me, not so much because it was so hot and i didn't take any kind of shade and there were no umbrellas or canopy or trees to shelter under.
Next time, I will know.
It is free , which amazed me, I expected to have to pay.
My grandchildren had so much fun, we will definitely visit again."

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Key tips for families: Pack plenty of sun protection (hats, sunscreen, and your own shade like an umbrella or canopy) as there's limited natural cover. Bring water shoes for comfort and safety on the wet surfaces. While toilets are available, they might not always be pristine, so pack wipes and hand sanitizer. The baby changing facilities require a disabled toilet key, so be prepared for that if needed.
💰 Budget Travelers
Combine your visit with a picnic lunch and a stroll along the adjacent Aberavon Beach for a complete, low-cost day out. The free admission means you can allocate your budget to other experiences or treats, like an ice cream from the nearby shop.

Making the Most of Your Visit
However, it's wise to be prepared. The open nature of the splash park means there's very little natural shade. Visitors are strongly advised to bring their own umbrellas, pop-up tents, or sun shelters to create a comfortable base, especially during the hottest parts of the day. Comfortable seating is available, but bringing your own picnic is a popular choice for families planning an extended visit. Remember to pack towels, swimwear, and a change of clothes for everyone.
Facilities and Practicalities
Despite these minor drawbacks, the overall value of a free, engaging water park cannot be overstated. The presence of a nearby shop for refreshments adds to the convenience. For those planning their visit, consider the timing to avoid the busiest periods and bring essentials like sun protection, water shoes for comfort and safety, and any personal items needed for a smooth family outing.
