What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Backyard is celebrated for its popular Cloud Matcha and pleasant, leafy ambiance, making it a go-to spot for coffee lovers and those seeking a relaxed vibe. While many praise the coffee quality and friendly service, some reviews mention that food presentation can be ordinary and AC might be weak during summer. It's a bustling spot on weekends, so weekday mornings are recommended for a quieter experience.
"I came on a Sunday, very busy. The place was nice but crowded and little bit noisy. Not best for people who want a quiet place to eat while studying or working. But if you want a bustling place, this is a must try. Coffee is excellent, I had Spanish Latte! For food I tried the Turkey Cheese which is good as well. Customer service needs improvement because it’s too busy, taking my order takes time. No one offered me the menu so I scanned the QR code of the menu from a nearby table by zooming into my camera 🤦♀️ okay to try once but this place is not for me. I find better cafes with same quality food but excellent customer service and quiet. 🤷♀️ Nothing special in this place."

"I wasn’t sure what to expect at Backyard in Umm Suqeim, but here is the real talk:
Backyard feels calm and inviting most days with leafy indoor and outdoor seating, making it a relaxing choice for a casual coffee break or catch‑up
When I visited the food felt ordinary—not special. Presentation was flat and flavors lacked punch. I was expecting more given the café’s vibe.
The air conditioning was not chilled enough on a hot July afternoon. Considering Dubai summer, this felt like a miss—most cafes or malls get this right.
We took photos and videos to capture the relaxed space and what we tried. Take a look before you visit."

Visiting during off-peak hours might also mean less pressure to order quickly, allowing you to savor your experience without feeling rushed.

The Viral Cloud Matcha Phenomenon
While the Cloud Matcha is the undisputed star, it's worth noting that taste is subjective. Some reviews mention it's good but perhaps not life-changing, while others are speechless with delight. Experimenting with milk choices and sweetness levels can help you find your perfect rendition. If matcha isn't your preference, The Backyard also offers a solid selection of other coffee beverages, ensuring there's something for everyone.
When ordering, be prepared for the possibility of needing to scan a QR code for the menu, as physical copies may not always be available. The popularity means that during peak times, you might experience a wait, but the unique experience of trying the viral drink often makes it worthwhile for visitors.
Ambiance and Vibe: Your Neighborhood Coffee Club
However, the 'vibe' can shift depending on the time and day. While mornings are often described as serene and quiet, weekend afternoons can become quite busy and noisy, transforming into a more bustling environment. This lively atmosphere is appealing to some, but may not be ideal for those seeking absolute tranquility.
It's also important to manage expectations regarding comfort, especially during Dubai's hot summer months. Some visitors have noted that the air conditioning might not always be sufficiently chilled, which can detract from the overall comfort, particularly during peak heat. Despite this, the friendly staff and pleasant decor generally contribute to a positive experience.
Digital Nomad Friendly? WiFi and Workspaces
While the D3 branch is specifically mentioned for its strong WiFi, other locations might also offer connectivity. It's always a good idea to confirm the WiFi reliability at your chosen branch if you plan on working for an extended period. The combination of good coffee, a pleasant ambiance, and reliable internet can make The Backyard a productive spot for remote workers.
