What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Reviews for the Red Dunes Desert Safari are mixed, with many praising the thrilling dune bashing and beautiful sunset views. However, some travelers report underwhelming experiences with budget tours, citing issues with driver interaction, food quality, and persistent upselling. Upgrading to premium packages often leads to higher satisfaction.
"I would give it a zero star rating if I could. The driver was absolutely disappointing, no greeting, no smile no communication. The dune bashing was underwhelming.
The entire experience was underwhelming.
People trying to sell you things at every corner. Cooldrinks marked up more than 6x.
As for the food... pathetic to say the least. Portions were super small, queues were long. A lot of things promised but not fulfilled.
Fire show was about 30seconds in the distance..."

"Let me start this review with an apology. We were a bit angry at the beginning of the trip- the poor driver Arbab wore the brunt of some unnecessary upset comments - primarily because this was a shared booking and I think we didn’t expect to spend so much time picking up the other two parties who in both cases were not at all ready. Also (perhaps) we were a little worried after reading down of the other reviews that we had made a mistake
Look- really this ended up being one of the greatest adventures we had been on in a long time. The price is excellent - I think we paid a base of 255AED which includes the pickup - the drive (1 hour) to the Red dunes. It includes the basic dinner (which we upgraded for 50AED each and includes the camel ride, belly dancers and entertainment and a drive back home. Around 8 hours in total- 70AED each - it’s a bargain. The video I have with Arbab driving the dunes is magic! I wouldn’t change a thing
I am more than happy to endorse this experience and anyone please message me if you want anymore information (maybe IG at agingcafeowner )"

"This desert tour is priced at $65 USD per couple, and overall, it reflects a “you get what you pay for” experience. Travelers should be aware of several aspects before booking.
The driver/guide interaction was minimal, with little explanation about the itinerary until we arrived at each stop. The first stop centered on optional quad biking (not included in the price) and was accompanied by persistent vendors selling drinks and souvenirs at steep markups—for example, a can of Sprite was offered at 40 AED. This part of the tour felt more like a sales stop than a cultural experience.
The dune bashing began immediately afterward, but without any briefing. While it can be fun, our driver was on his mobile during the activity, which raised safety concerns.
Dinner took place at a desert camp. The included meal was very basic, and unless guests were willing to wait nearly two hours, they were encouraged to upgrade to a “premium dinner” for an additional 50 AED. The entertainment was enjoyable enough, but overall the evening leaned heavily on upselling rather than delivering a quality all-inclusive package.
Takeaway: If you’re seeking a budget-friendly desert tour and don’t mind paying extra for most add-ons, this could suit you. However, if you value safety, clear communication, and a more inclusive experience, you may want to explore other operators."

Many visitors are drawn to the red sand safari for the dramatic landscapes and the sense of remoteness it provides, even when just a short drive from the city. The undulating terrain is perfect for thrilling activities like dune bashing and sandboarding, offering an exhilarating way to experience the desert's natural beauty.
When planning your visit, remember that the red dunes desert can get quite hot during the day. Tours are typically scheduled for the late afternoon to take advantage of cooler temperatures and the stunning sunset views. This timing also allows for an evening of traditional entertainment and dining at a desert camp.
Navigating Desert Safari Packages
Many travelers find that upgrading to a premium red dunes safari significantly enhances the experience. This often includes a more substantial dinner, better seating at the camp, and sometimes additional activities or a more personalized service. For instance, the Al Khayma Camp Desert Safari is frequently mentioned for its comprehensive offerings.
Be aware that budget tours can involve persistent upselling of drinks and souvenirs at inflated prices, and the quality of the included food might be disappointing. Reading recent reviews and clarifying inclusions with the operator beforehand is highly recommended to ensure you get the best value for your money.
Experiencing the Desert Camp Culture
Beyond the camel ride, camps typically feature various forms of entertainment. Expect to see captivating belly dance performances and thrilling fire shows, which add a vibrant energy to the evening. You might also have the opportunity to get a henna tattoo or take a photo with a falcon.
Dining at the camp is usually part of the package, though the quality can vary. While basic meals are often included, upgrading to a premium dinner is a popular choice for those seeking a more extensive and satisfying culinary experience. The overall atmosphere aims to provide a glimpse into traditional Bedouin hospitality.
