What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Lazar Hloby Park is cherished for its historical significance and role as a beautiful green oasis in the city center. Visitors appreciate the serene lake, the summer theater, and the charming children's railway. While the park is well-loved, some note that the monument to Lazar Globa could be more prominently featured to better highlight his historical importance.
"The sculpture of the Cossack Globa was installed in the park of the same name in Dnipro in 1972. The park is beautiful, in the middle there is a lake, on the shore of which a summer theater is built, and a children's railway operates. There are always many vacationers. The park has long been waiting for reconstruction, after the end of the war I am sure it will happen."

"Lazar Ostapovich Globa - Retired captain of the Zaporizhian army. According to D.I. Yavornytsky, he was born in the town of Vedmedovka in the Kyiv province of the Chigirin district, from where he went to Zaporizhzhia. Unmarried, in 1743 he settled on the right bank of the Dnieper, opposite Monastyrsky Island. An ardent gardener, Globa planted three gardens and built four mills on the Dnieper. He also had land for twelve peasant households. Lazar Globa owned his gardens until the city of Yekaterinoslav was built on the site of the Polovitsy settlement. Prince Potemkin purchased all of Globa's gardens. After selling his property, Globa lived near the settlement in a garden he had planted (L. Globa Park). He died in 1793, having lived over 100 years. At the burial site in 1972, a monument to our fellow countryman was erected, and a little later his name was given to this ancient park, which still adorns the center of our city (L. Globa Park)."

"An interesting personality. It is thanks to Globa's work that our city has 2 old and best parks - Shevchenko Park and Lazar Globa Park (former Chkalov Park)."
