What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Travelers rave about the Şehir Hatları ferries for their incredible affordability and stunning Bosphorus views, calling it the best way to see Istanbul on a budget. While the service is efficient and the boats are clean, some visitors find the pier navigation at Eminönü a bit confusing for first-timers.
"Great Cheap Cruise
Less than 1.50€ each way
Can pay with Card at the turnstile
Great views, better at Sunset"

"Efficient and well-priced service. Clean boats with great views on peaceful waters. Final stopping point for a visit to get your fish sandwiches, homemade gelato and a short castle hike.
Only feedback is to improve your Google Maps visibility of where people should go to buy tickets and wait for boarding as first timers get a little confused with all the different piers at Eminonu and whether they can use their metro card for payment (you cannot, pay by cash/credit card). Also an advisory for passengers to not remain standing for extended periods as it obstructs the views of the ones sitting.
Please keep this service line as low-cost as possible as it is a fantastic agent and ambassador for Turkish tourism and a great way to get outsiders to love the country."

"640TL for the long bosphorus for non citizens with no audio guides Tour (single and round trip is the same price). Compared to other tours in the area, you go a little further and stop at Anadolu Havagi for a bit. Run by the city.
I found there are other tours in the area for less price that goes to a similar area but with more dedicated communication and probably swings by the tourist things a bit closer.
Note: We personally stopped at kanlıca instead to see other things (and was the most convenient way from emimonu) and the pricing and round trip ticket still works from there."

Crowds can vary, especially during peak tourist seasons or commute hours. Weekday mornings and evenings are busiest. Sunset cruises tend to be popular.
📸 📸 Photography Tips
Sunset offers magical golden hour light, making the palaces and mosques glow. Early mornings can also provide beautiful light with fewer crowds.
You'll have excellent views of Dolmabahçe Palace, Beylerbeyi Palace, the Bosphorus Bridge, Rumeli Fortress, and numerous waterfront mansions (yalis).
The open decks, especially the bow and stern, offer unobstructed panoramic views. Try to capture the skyline as you move between continents.
Use a wider aperture for low light and a faster shutter speed to combat boat movement. Consider a polarizing filter to enhance the blues of the water and sky.
Be patient and wait for moments when people are not standing directly in front of the view. The upper decks generally offer better vantage points.
