The opportunity to explore multiple tomb sites adds to the appeal.
"I went to see the tombs all by myself and there was no line up and the view was really nice . They could fix some areas to be able to climb easily, I see this might be an issue for certain people. Highly recommend having proper shoes to climb though. This may be disappointment for certain people because there’s not much to do there other than seeing the tomb. There should be a proper information sign about it."

"Pretty cool and almost no effort required to see them. A little bit of a rocky trail, maybe don't try flipflops, but we did and it was doable. The tombs are steps apart and the view of harbours are a bonus."

The History of the Lycian Rock Tombs
The Lycians were known for their distinct language, script, and a confederation of city-states. Their burial customs, particularly the elaborate rock-cut tombs, are a testament to their beliefs about the afterlife and their social hierarchy. The tombs in Kaş, though smaller than some other Lycian sites like Myra, offer a fascinating glimpse into this ancient culture, easily accessible within the modern town.
Visiting these tombs provides a tangible connection to a civilization that played a significant role in the region's history. The strategic location of Kaş, likely an important port in antiquity, further enhances the historical context of these ancient burial sites.
Navigating the Tomb Sites
It's crucial to note that Google Maps might only pinpoint the initial, smaller site. A second, more substantial site is located about 100 yards further up the road. Look for a clear yellow sign on the side of the road that indicates the steps leading up to this second area, which contains larger and arguably more impressive tombs.
Exploring both sites is highly recommended for a complete experience. The trails, while not overly strenuous, are rocky and uneven, emphasizing the need for appropriate footwear. The reward for this exploration is not just the historical discovery but also the breathtaking panoramic vistas of Kaş harbor and the surrounding turquoise waters.
