What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate the museum's focus on Turkish modern art and its role in showcasing the nation's artistic journey. While some exhibits may be less engaging for certain visitors, the changing temporary collections offer fresh perspectives. The museum's location is also a plus for exploring nearby attractions.
"We were a group of three, and the ticket price was 450 TL per person. At first, I thought the price was fair but wasn’t sure if it would be worth it. But once I entered, I realized this was one of the best decisions I’ve made in Istanbul.
The paintings are breathtaking, each one makes you stop and think deeply about the emotions and stories behind it. For example, I saw a painting of one man whispering into another man’s ear. I stood there for nearly 15 minutes asking myself.. is he a good friend giving advice, or is he leading him down a dark path? Another painting showed a soldier carrying a wounded comrade, which was deeply emotional. And another, three men working with rocks, made me reflect on how much of the world has been built through the hard work of men.
This museum is not just about looking at art, it’s about feeling and thinking. It’s an experience that stays with you. Definitely worth the visit, unforgettable."

"A wonderful opportunity to view Turkish art and artists spanning over 100+ years. There is almost too much to see in one visit, as I spent many hours taking in as much as possible.
The museum is fascinating architecturally too and provides an interesting juxtaposition to the art.
I would recommend a visit to the Istanbul Museum of Painting and Sculpture, it feels so vital and alive to see such important works while in Turkey."

"A wonderful, rich museum that shows the development and evolution of Turkish Painting and Sculpture from the late Ottoman Empire to pretty much modern day. It offers extensive information on historical events that shaped the way art was created and its social and political impact and mission. You should start from the bottom floor and work your way up the exhibition. You will not regret going."
