Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Istanbul Cat Museum a delightful and charming small museum, especially for cat lovers. While some note there isn't a vast amount to see, the free entry, friendly resident cats, and the opportunity to support street cat welfare through gift shop purchases are significant draws. The historical context provided is also appreciated.

"It's a small but witty museum, I bought a totebag for 300 TL and 50% will go for the cats stuff. Although indeed there is not much to see but it's a free entry and if you like cats, why not, you got to learn one or two things here.

It will be great if this place offers more souvenirs like authentic cat postcards or cat traffic signs as I found out, it's pretty difficult to find them in Istanbul despite the name the city of cats (well actually they exist anywhere but too much AI, surprisingly). I would visit the museum again just to see if they have something new on the table 😆"

"Wonderful little place, not far from Galata Tower. Free entry, friendly cats, and interesting factoids of cat history. They have t-shirts, bags and art prints for sale, some of which goes towards stray cat veterinary services and spaying and neutering. Fyi when I went they weren't able to accept card payments, so go with cash on hand."

John Neal

"Delightful. A small place with history of domesticating cats and their connection to Istanbul. Includes some art and cat themed things to buy. 50% of proceeds go to supporting cats in the city (feeding and spaying and nurturing them).

Just a quick stop while you’re walking by will do. It brought me an unexpected spark of joy and context to how this became a cat city."
