What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the absolutely stunning, unparalleled views of Istanbul's landmarks, especially from the rooftop terraces. However, many caution that the food and drink prices are significantly inflated, making it feel like a tourist trap for those seeking a culinary experience. Service can be a highlight for some, but others report feeling neglected as tourists.
"I wish there were a way to separate a venue from its food. This place is all about the location — they truly have one of the best views of Hagia Sophia. If what you want is to enjoy a drink while looking at this iconic landmark, then absolutely, go for the view. We only live once, and the setting is undeniably beautiful.
The food, however, was just average. They tried very hard to sell “fresh fish,” but they don’t tell you the price beforehand. I ordered a chopped fish salad, a small fish plate, and a gin & tonic. The bill came to 100 USD — and they even charged the gin and the tonic separately (two shots of gin were 50 USD, plus the tonic). It made me wonder if ordering a margarita would mean the limes appear on a separate line on the bill.
It definitely feels like a tourist trap — you’re paying for the view, not the food.
I enjoyed the view 100%, but would I come back?
Probably not."

"Came in here on a rainy day but the service was spectacular! Zafer was the best and helped with any questions I had! Highly recommend asking for Zafer for English speakers. Fatima was also great she guided me to the roof top were the view are amazing even on a rainy day! Definitely will come again when I come back to visit."

"The views from the top terrace are amazing.. you get a clear view of Hagi Sofia and a decent view of the blue mosque.. the water front view is stunning.. we ordered the tradiontal breakfast at 1400/person. The food was too much to eat and many dishes went untouched but the ones we ate where all good."

The Allure of the View
When visiting, prioritize finding a spot on a rooftop terrace. These elevated platforms are designed to maximize the visual experience, offering unobstructed sightlines. While the views are a year-round attraction, they are especially pleasant during the warmer months when outdoor seating is more comfortable. Be prepared for crowds, especially during peak sunset hours, as this is a highly sought-after experience.
Navigating Dining Experiences
Key advice from travelers is to be discerning about where and what you order. If your primary goal is to savor the view, consider opting for a drink or a lighter snack rather than a full, expensive meal. Always inquire about prices beforehand, especially for items like fresh fish, as costs can be surprisingly high. Some visitors have reported feeling like they were in a 'tourist trap' due to the disparity between cost and quality.
Despite these concerns, some visitors have had positive dining experiences, particularly with the traditional breakfast spreads, which are often generous and flavorful. Excellent service, like that provided by staff members such as Zafer, can also significantly enhance the overall experience, even if the food itself is not the main highlight.
Exploring Beyond the Hills
Getting around the Asian side is relatively easy with its well-connected public transportation system, including buses and ferries. The ferry rides themselves are an attraction, offering beautiful perspectives of the city. For those looking to immerse themselves in local culture, exploring the streets of Kadıköy and its surrounding neighborhoods provides a more authentic Istanbul experience away from the main tourist trails.
