Famous for being the largest mosque built during the Seljuk period in Northern Anatolia, the Alaaddin Keykubat Mosque is conveniently located on Sakarya Street in the city center, making it a short walk away.
Reflecting the characteristics of early Islamic architecture, the rectangular mosque, 66 meters long and 22 meters wide, is also a sight to behold with its charming wooden ornamentation and impressive courtyard. Adorned with plant motifs unique to the Seljuk period, the Alaaddin Keykubat Mosque has been compared to the Bursa Ulu Mosque in Evliya Çelebi's books. Located in the northeast corner of the Alaeddin Mosque courtyard, the tomb contains the graves of Celaleddin Beyazıt, his son İsfendiyar, İsfendiyar's son İbrahim Bey, and members of this family. There is no inscription on the tomb, and its date and authorship are unknown. Its foundation deed lists it as "İbrahim Bey." The tomb is a rectangular, single-domed structure oriented north-south. The sarcophagi within are fine examples of Turkish stonework and carvings of the period. Above the tomb's entrance are inscribed the verses, "Every soul will taste death. In the end, you will be returned to Us."
