What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
TEP Bar is celebrated as a unique cultural gem in Bangkok's Chinatown, offering an immersive experience with live traditional Thai music and creative cocktails. Visitors rave about the authentic atmosphere and the engaging performances, though some note the drinks are on the pricier side. It's a highly recommended spot for those seeking a taste of genuine Thai culture.
"TEP BAR is more than just a bar; it's a Cultural Bar of Thailand located in Bangkok's vibrant Soi Nana (Chinatown area). It offers a truly unique nightlife experience by blending authentic Thai traditions with the craft cocktail scene.
🍾Atmosphere: Rustic Charm Meets Live Thai Music
The bar’s decor is styled to evoke the 'Golden Age of Thailand', featuring exposed brick, dim lighting, and antique-looking jars of Yadong (herbal spirits). This gives it a cool, mysterious, and slightly nostalgic vibe.
The main attraction is the live Thai traditional music. Talented young musicians play instruments like the ranad (xylophone) and various percussions. Crucially, the music isn't just background noise—it's lively, engaging, and often features Ramwong (Thai folk dancing) tunes that get the crowd tapping their feet or even dancing along. It's an energetic fusion of old-school sound and modern socializing.
🍸Drinks: A Culinary Adventure
Your selection perfectly highlights the bar's focus on local Thai ingredients. You skipped the raw shots of Yadong but dove deep into their signature cocktails which skillfully use Thai rice wine (Sato) and other local flavors (Pandan, Plum, herbs). Each drink is a thoughtful creation, offering a complexity of flavor that you won't find at typical international bars.
The experience is well worth the premium price tag. Just be sure to book a table in advance as it fills up quickly!"

"Amazing atmosphere. Definitely one of a kind. Not a lot of bars would play live Thai music like this place. They serve a lot of cool original cocktails and local liqueurs. The appetizers are great but the main dishes are just okay (they're very oily — get to have with alcohol though). The staffs are very helpful with recommendations."
The Angry Stringinstrument
"A friend and I were interested in catching some live music, so we stopped by here an hour before closing. There was a band using indigenous instruments and vocal techniques — upbeat, almost rock-like but not, fun to watch and listen to. the whole bar got into it as well. the acoustics are great; it was loud but not so loud i couldn’t hear my friend sitting next to me.
My friend and I had the Nua Dad Diew (sun dry beef, stir fry with chilli - would recommend), yum Dok darha (spicy darha salad - wasn’t a big fan personally) and the mango sticky rice. didn’t try any of the drinks but i’m sure they’re good here.
Very cool place, would definitely come again."
