What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Long Beach is celebrated as a beautiful, expansive stretch of sand with clear waters, perfect for swimming and relaxation. Visitors praise its stunning sunsets and the variety of beachfront dining options, from casual to upscale. While the northern part is livelier, the southern end offers a more peaceful escape. Some minor concerns include occasional jellyfish and the need to purchase from restaurants for sunbed access.
"The Long Beach is a very beautiful long stretch of beach on Koh Lanta, which is quite busy in the northern part and where many hotels and restaurants are located and the further south you go, the quieter it becomes with some private villas and smaller sections without direct buildings. Both corners have their charm. You can't really swim in the very south because of the many stones, but you can swim after about 300 metres from the south. The beach has an exposed location for sunsets. The restaurants offer different types of food and there are both low and high budget restaurants. You have to take a closer look at the sunbeds on the beach. The hotel sunbeds are of course only for hotel guests, but you can also get a sunbed in front of the restaurants as a non-hotel guest if you eat something. Of course, this also applies to the restaurants without a hotel connection. For us, this is the most beautiful beach we have seen on Koh Lanta."

"A very peaceful and wonderful beach away from the tourist crowd with lots of affordable resorts nearby. I spent everyday of my 2 weeks holiday on Lanta there and it’s been the best unplug I could ever wish for. Top for sunbathing, chilling and swimming. Sand, no rocks 🪨"

"Long Beach is aptly named, stretching out beautifully along the coast. The southern part of the beach offers a more tranquil experience. The sand is fine and the water is clean, making it an ideal spot to relax and enjoy the sun."

The Charm of Long Beach: North vs. South
The southern end of Long Beach offers a more serene and tranquil escape. Here, you'll find fewer establishments, more private villas, and quieter stretches of sand. While swimming might be slightly more challenging in the very south due to stones, moving just a few hundred meters north usually resolves this. This part of the beach is ideal for those seeking peace, quiet, and a more natural setting.
Regardless of which end you choose, the fine white sand and clear waters are consistent throughout. The beach is also known for its stunning sunsets, making it a popular spot for evening relaxation and photography.
Experiencing Koh Lanta's Sunsets
To truly savor the experience, it's recommended to arrive a bit before sunset to secure a good vantage point, especially during the busier months. The atmosphere becomes quite magical as the sun dips below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the water and sand. It's a daily ritual that many travelers look forward to and often describe as a highlight of their trip.
Beyond just watching, some visitors enjoy kayaking or paddleboarding during the late afternoon, offering a unique perspective of the sunset from the water. The calm seas often make this a pleasant and memorable activity.
Practicalities: Sunbeds, Swimming, and Safety
Swimming at Long Beach is generally a pleasant experience due to the clean and often calm waters. However, like many tropical beaches, there's a possibility of encountering jellyfish, particularly in the southern areas. While not a constant issue, it's wise to be aware and observe if others are swimming safely.
For those looking for a bit more activity, renting kayaks is a popular option, allowing you to explore the coastline. Beach volleyball is also a common sight, adding a fun, energetic element to the beach scene.
