What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the breathtaking mountain views and the serene, misty atmosphere of the Kew Mae Pan Trail. The mandatory local guide system is appreciated for supporting the community. Some find the stairs challenging, and language barriers with guides can occur, but the overall experience is highly recommended for its natural beauty.
"Kew Mae Pan Trail has been on my wishlist in Chiangmai for years and finally made it. It's a seasonal trail for it will closed during rainy season as per our guide that landslide may occur.
We went on mid if February, weather was great on the day, but by the time entering the forest it felt quite cold yet later under the sunshine would be warm but comfy.
A lot of giant trees around and birds whispering throughout the journey.
I joined a one day trip including other site seeing to Doi Inthanon. We went to Kew Mae Pan after lunch & total 7 of us guided by own tour guild & a hired hiking guide, who is from the hill tribe, amust as for the support to the community, he is always at the end to make sure everyone is fine.
The trail started in the forest, highly recommended to pick a bamboo stick from the beginning unless you are frequent hiker or professional, otherwise we can rely on it especially in a low energy mode.
A lot if stairs happen in the trail, took around an hour you will be entering to the dreamy mountain view & there will have several view points after.
Must get enough sleep and prepare water for this hiking. Definitely worth going although my legs got soreness for 3 days after..."

"the views were truly breathtaking. The tempature can change from cold to hot during the hike so bring layers of clothe. I found the hike to be relatively easy, perfect for anyone looking to enjoy the outdoors without too much difficulty. suitable for kids. There is entrance fee and you need to pay 200 bhat for a local guide. our guide didnt know english. We arrived at 9:00 and had to wait for 40 minutes to a guide."

"I recently visited the Mae Pan Nature Trail and had a great experience overall. The trail offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and is well-maintained throughout. However, it's worth noting that some parts of the trail have many steps, which might be challenging for some visitors.
Despite the steps, the trail is still relatively easy to navigate and can be completed in around 1h30. I recommend bringing sturdy shoes and plenty of water as the trail can be a bit steep in some sections. The views at the summit are well worth the effort, though, and make for some great photo opportunities.
Overall, I highly recommend the Mae Pan Nature Trail to anyone looking for a scenic and relatively easy hike. The steps might be a challenge for some visitors, but with a bit of effort, the trail can be completed in a reasonable amount of time. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!"

The Importance of Local Guides
This system fosters a sustainable tourism model, allowing visitors to experience the trail's beauty while directly supporting the people who call Doi Inthanon home. It's a chance to connect with the local culture and understand the importance of conservation efforts from a community perspective.
While guides may not always speak fluent English, their presence is invaluable for safety and cultural exchange. Embrace the opportunity to interact and learn, even with language barriers.
Navigating the Trail's Terrain
A significant feature of the trail is the presence of numerous stairs. For those not accustomed to hiking or who may have knee concerns, a bamboo stick, often available at the trailhead, can provide essential support and stability. This simple tool can make a considerable difference in comfort and safety, especially on steeper descents.
Footwear is paramount. Sturdy hiking shoes with good grip are highly recommended to navigate the potentially slippery or uneven surfaces, particularly after rain or in misty conditions. Proper preparation ensures you can fully enjoy the breathtaking scenery without discomfort.
Seasonal Beauty and Weather Considerations
Even within the dry season, the weather on Doi Inthanon can be unpredictable. Temperatures can fluctuate significantly throughout the day. Mornings might be cool and misty, feeling quite cold, while the sun can bring warmth later on. Therefore, dressing in layers is crucial.
The mist, while sometimes obscuring distant views, adds a unique, ethereal atmosphere to the trail, creating a 'dreamy' landscape. This can result in incredibly photogenic conditions, making the experience magical even if the full panorama isn't visible.
